I'm signing, because I think it is very short sighted on the part of the university to eliminate the professorship of Latin. Latin is one of the most important languages for the study of western European civilization, and it is not enough simply to have a few lecturers. A department without a professorial as its leader and inspiration will soon be second rate. Ich halte die schrittweise Demontierung der für die europäische Geistesgeschichte so essentiell wichtigen altertumswissenschaftlichen Studienfächer für sehr kurzsichtig und falsch und möchte die Universität Salzburg eindringlich ersuchen, diese Entscheidung noch zu überdenken. Eine Einsparung dieser Professur würde den Studienfächern Lehramt Latein, BA Altertumswissenschaften und MA Latinistik massiv schaden und auch das international angesehene Forschungsprojekt Corpus Scriptorum Ecclesiasticorum Latinorum ernsthaft gefährden.Ich bitte die Universität Salzburg, die Professur nachzubesetzen und den schrittweisen Abbau geisteswissenschaftlicher Fächer nicht fortzuführen. Eine mittelfristige Abschaffung des Studienfachs Latein gefährdet den humanistischen Bildungsweg ganz massiv, weil dann auch keine Latein-Lehrer ausgebildet werden können.

Ich meine, dass Klassische Philologie ein Studium ist, dass zwar „praktisch“ in einem wirtschaftlichen Sinne wenig Verständnis findet, aber auf einem humanistischen Sinne essentiell ist, um strukturieren der Gesellschaft zu verstehen, dass weitreichende Literatur die Gesellschaft nur fördern kann.
