MILLION PEOPLE MARCH AGAINST CRIME IN JAMAICA!!!!

MILLION PEOPLE MARCH ORGANIZATION

PETITION

Theme: A million concerned people marching against violence, murder and corruption in Jamaica

Background to the Cause

The growing crescendo of violence in Jamaica has permeated every aspect of life on the island heightening hysteria and traumatizing the population. Sporadic murder, kidnapping and rape have become daily occurrences. In 2013 over 1200 person were slaughtered by gun violence or hacked to death. People have vanished and while some have been accounted for, many remain missing and are presumed dead.

Up until January 11, 2014; Jamaica’s murder rate was 1.5 persons per day, which calculates to 547.4 persons destined to be slaughtered by the end of the year. Given this possibility, Jamaicans home and abroad are feeling helpless and remain in a state of despair without any effective remedy in sight.

No one is spared from savage attacks or the painful tentacle of corruption in Jamaica:

1. One Priest savagely attacked and robbed in her home and other Priest murdered

2. Women praying in church were attacked and beheaded

3. School childrenraped, mutilated and set on fire

4. Innocent gay people are hunted and slaughtered like common criminals

5. Extortion and intimidation of business people

6. Robbery of the old and infirmed

7. Swindling foreign nationals of their life savings—known locally as LOTTO SCAM

Most recently, children visiting from overseas were slaughtered. There are incidences of women being mutilated in the most savage and callous means, never seen before in the Caribbean.

‘Kingston is rated “Critical” for crime by the Department of State due to a high frequency of criminal activity throughout Jamaica. Violent crime is a serious problem, particularly in Kingston. With a population of approximately 2.7 million people, the number of murders and other violence, places Jamaica in the top five tiers of the highest per capita homicide rates in the world. Most violent crimes, in particular murder, involve firearms’; (www.osac.gov). That is approximately 1,500 per annum, placing it on par with South Africa and Colombia. The population of South Africa is 51.19 million and in Colombia it is 48.3 million. How is it that an island of only 2.7 million people can rival these countries?

Our Core Concerns

· The citizens of Jamaica including those in the Diaspora have lost confidence in the ability of the Jamaican Government and the Opposition Party to control crime and violenceand corruption on the Island

· Many Jamaicans and Foreign Nationals wishing to visit are apprehensive to travel and walk freely around the island of Jamaica

· Jamaica remains of one the most unsafe places within the Region; having the highest rate of murder

· The randomness of murder, robbery and corruption in Jamaica has heighten the uncertainty of life for every single resident and visitor

Our Plea

We are calling on all citizens of the world to help us voice our concern to the Jamaican Government and those influential people to come to the aid of the Jamaican people.

· The United Nations
