Matthijs van Nieuwkerk ontvangt een jaarsalaris van 498.000 euro excl. allerlei vergoedingen en nevenverdiensten. In de publieke en semi-publieke sector geldt de zgn. Balkenende-norm. Dit wil zeggen dat niemand meer mag verdienen dan onze MP namelijk 181.000 euro per jaar.
Nu zijn er ongeveer 2800 werknemers in deze sector die meer verdienen dan onze MP, waaronder Matthijs van Nieuwkerk.
