Dear Sir,

We the residents of Short Road and Church Road, Walmer are concerned about motorists using the above roads in this residential area as a throughway as opposed to travelling on Main Road, Walmer. Many motorists utilizing these roads continuously exceed the prescribed speed limit, placing residents, pedestrians, children, animals, property and themselves at risk.

Many motorists do not abide by the speed limit for urban areas, which according to the National Road Traffic Act is 60kph. This places pedestrians, residents, children and animals at risk. It also poses a risk to property, both private and public. Furthermore, due to residential nature of the above roads, which include a Church and Schools, we believe the speed limit should be set at 30kph as per the National Road Traffic Act.

There are NO stop signs at all on Short Road and no stop sign at the intersection of Church Road and 12^th Avenue. This encourages some motorists to gain speeds exceeding those of the prescribed speed limit mentioned above.

We hereby request the Municipality take immediate corrective action to ensure the adequate safety of the residents, pedestrians, children, animals, property and last but not least, the motorists themselves. This action should include stop signs, pedestrian signs and signs reminding motorists of the legal speed limits.

Should the above measures not prove effective in achieving the required objective, we the residents reserve the right to request further measures to ensure our safety and that of our families and properties.
