Independent Record Labels and Musicians of South Africa

We ask all the people of South Africa to make their voices heard by signing this petition. As Independent Record Companies and Musicians, we are severely marginilised by broadcasters. Independent record companies are struggling financially, as a result cannot develop local talent or contribute meaningfully towards the South African economy. Many Independent Record Companies and musicians have a serious struggle in getting a vital part of reaching their audience-Airplay on Tv and radio. There is an almost impenetrable wall of gatekeepers both at the national and private broadcasters that marginilise musicians who submit proffessionally recoded and masteres music as well as music videos. The result is ample rotation for overseas music as well as very high rotation of a select group of musicians. Indeed many labels end up closing down, and musicians quitting the industry to pursue other work as there is no prospect of success, while millions in royalties leave the country to pay overseas musicians.

 

This is just a tip of the iceberg in detailing complex issues in the music industry
