Protect Eersterust Elderly Homeowners – Suspend July 1 Municipal Rates and Taxes Increase

We, the undersigned residents of Eersterust, urgently call on the City of Tshwane to halt the planned municipal rates and services increase set for July 1, 2025, as it will place severe financial pressure on elderly homeowners living on limited incomes.
Our Concerns
Many of our senior residents rely on pensions or social grants. This increase threatens their ability to afford basic services, placing their well-being and dignity at risk.
We Request:

Immediate suspension of the increase for elderly homeowners.

A special rates rebate or discount for qualifying senior residents, similar to models already in place in other municipalities.

A public consultation to explain how rate increases will benefit communities like Eersterust.
Our elders have served this community for decades. It’s time we protect them.
