Preservation of Italian language at Jyväskylä University

Italian is a beautiful language when sung, a language of opera. It is a delight to speak. Finland would be the poorer for loosing the teaching of Italian. In language learning you learn about the culture and history of Italy. Bella Italia.

Italian is a major language in Europe. It is crucial to keep linguistic and cultural windows open. Closing shop in this way would be irresponsible on the part of the university, although certainly in line with the present anti-cultural tendencies and short-sighted views of efficiency.

My dearest friend told me about this issue and in my personal opinion it'd be really shame to revoke this grade.

Cultural illiteracy is thriving when we most urgently need to understand our fellow human beings. Jyväskylä University's waning commitment to Italian Studies is unthinkable, given Finland's prosperity and reputation as one of the most humane places to live in the world. The humanities help us to understand the very meaning of terms like 'humane' and even 'human', and Italy has probably given us more contributions in this regard than any other single country (e.g. the Dolce Stil Novo, Dante, Giotto, Petrarch, Boccaccio, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci; the list goes on and on). Administrators and educators at Jyväskylä University: Defend the values that have made higher education possible in the West! Be partisans in the fight against neoliberal economic tyranny and its contempt for learning, just as Finland itself resisted fascist tyranny in 1939-45!

For me is important to study Italian lamguage to understand art architetture, foods all things that belong to italian people. And than forein people come to Italy to appreciate all this.

Because I'm a teacher of italian as a second language.

Since the 1970s I have known of Jyväskylä University as an important center for international cooperation on language teaching and applied linguistics.

Spero che sia mantenuto l'insegnamento della lingua italiana. Ho avuto modo di conoscere il prof. La Grassa e ho subito provato stima e simpatia.

The preservation and promotion of the Italian language - the first offspring of Latin - is a tribute to a language that served in spreading the finest arts and culture from Italy to the rest of the world.

Many Arts, Languages and Humanities programs are are under threat of being curtailed or cancelled in many universities around the world. It is important that every effort must be made to ensure that universities maintain these programs.

Mielestäni jokaisen itsensä arvostavan yliopiston on tarjottava monipuolista kielivalikoma ja italian kieli on sentään yksi maailman tärkeimmistä sivistyskielistä!

L'insegnamento della lingua italiana non deve essere abolita non solo all'universita' di Jyväskylä, Central Finland, ma anche presso altre universita' del mondo se c'e' quest tentativo. E' una bellissima lingua che rappresenta una delle piu' anche culture e civilta' del mondo. Dai, E' un tesoro.

The teaching of Italian must not be abolished not only at the University of Jyväskylä, Central Finland but in other university of the world if there is any such attempt. It's a wonderful language which represent one of the oldest cultures and civilisations of the world. Come, its a treasure.

Toivon, että allekirjoituksellani voin vaikuttaa kielten opetuksen säilymisen puolesta, sillä opiskelen niitä itsekin sekä kielten ja kulttuurien tunteminen on myös mielestäni erittäin tärkeää ja sivistävää oppimista.
