It makes sense to have a second police force which exclusively focusses on animal cruelty, neglect and abuse issues. Such forces are already in place in other countries - it's time we had one in New Zealand.
It's clear that in NZ the human police force and animal welfare organisations do not have the time, legal power or resources to act in many cases of animal cruelty. As a result animals suffer who could have otherwise been rescued and perpetrators of animal abuse go unpunished.

The laws in New Zealand are disgraceful we need better protection of our animals. As a small country we should be leading the way and showing the world how it should be done.

I am filled with horror at some of the cruelty animals suffer at the hands of humans physically makes me sick. The sooner we get animal police throughout New Zealand the happier I will be

Reasons are that I agree that a lot of animals are slipping through the system and there is not enough clout in spca an mpi or city councils to protect the animals consistently and quickly

I agree that the SPCA cannot cope with the influx of unwanted..injured...lost & stray animals, so extra support is needed in the form of an Animal Police on duty 24/7. Badly needed.

Because the SPCA is just not enough. Animal cruelty is a crime and should be enforced as such.

cause animal needs to be protected and our current agencies cant or don't have the law behind them to enforce animal issues, cruelty, removal and or arresting, plus think the government needs to step up and enforce neutering/spaying at a very low cost this could cut down on major breeding problems now and for the future.

MPI is simply not meeting the need, as their primary purpose is in direct conflict with enforcing genuine animal welfare. A separate enforcement body must be established to address this very important issue.

Welfare is subordinate to industry in a country such as New Zealand with its concentrated, slaughterhouse-based economy. A separate, powerful protection force is necessary and horribly overdue.

I have been involved in animal welfare for most of my life and in 40 plus years nothing has changed significantly to protect and police animal abuse and cruelty..
I fully support these changed and cannot see why the violent abusive killing of animals isn't treated the same as that against a child..

This intiative is a MUST! animals need more protection and under the current inadequate system the police and the SPCA are powerless to enforce the rights of animals as long as they are fed and given water and shelter. Animals need to LIVE their lives...not just exist

The amount of animal abuse that goes on in our country is shameful! People who can not show basic respect to animals whether they are farm animals, sporting animals or pets need to be held accountable.

Animal welfare is not being taken seriously by NZ authorities & Govt. Cruel & neglectful treatment of animals is being tolerated, factory farming is an abysmal example of how much you really care. You are not doing enough. Our animal welfare organisations are not supported as they should be, they should be given more authority, in fact, as the petition says, there must be a separate authorised & govt.supported entity, eg NZ Animal Police. Please help the animals in our country.
