2026-09-09 11:38:19The Rejection of Apollo Academy Proposal for Reedswood Park
Save Our Park, the group formed to fight the planning proposal for the new school, warmly welcomes Walsall Planning Committee’s decision last Thursday to reject the proposal to build the Windsor Trust Apollo Academy in Reedswood Park.
This decision is a victory for common sense. Local people worked tirelessly to bring this about, and we will continue to do everything we can to protect the area which local people call Reedswood Green.
Save Our Park would like to thank everyone who supported the campaign: the local residents who attended meetings, shared information, delivered leaflets, signed petitions, spoke out and made their voices heard. This outcome would not have been possible without the determination, time and energy of the local community.
Shahin Akhtar, Secretary of Walsall TUC, said:
“This is a fantastic victory for the residents of Reedswood and Birchills and a powerful testament to what a determined community can achieve when it stands together.”
Following the planning decision Save Our Park has submitted an application for Reedswood Green to be listed as an Asset of Community Value. The group believes this is an important step towards preserving the land for the people who use and value it. Recognition as an Asset of Community Value would reflect that Reedswood Green is not simply open land, but a much-loved community space that supports recreation, wellbeing, nature and wildlife.
Shokt Faisal from Agenda 21 and Friends of Reedswood Park said "This is a historic victory for the community. We will keep on fighting to protect our park and green spaces to preserve it it for future generations."

Thank you foir signing out petition we have managed to gain over 2000 signatures including the ppaer version and the online petition! This is an amazing achievement. This will be presented on Monday night to the Full Council. Please come and join us out side the Council house on monday night to help us express our opposition to the new schooldevelopment.

will also debate and vote on the Notice of Motion relating
to the proposed secondary school development.
Join us outside the Council House at 5:30pm before
the meeting to show your support for the campaign
and demonstrate how important this issue is to the local residents. And then, if you can, please join us inside the Council House for the meeting at 6:00pm.
