Calling for accountability and transparency

We, the undersigned, call on the Western Cape Education Department (WCED), the School Governing Body of Wynberg Girls’ Junior School, and relevant authorities to urgently:

  1. Acknowledge and investigate the alleged interrogation, trauma, and rights violations against a 13-year-old learner, Etana, and the impact it has had on her wellbeing.
  2. Address the retaliatory dismissal of her mother, Phumza Ludidi Mboniswa, a dedicated SGB staff member, who lost her job after advocating for her daughter’s safety and dignity.
  3. Ensure immediate medical and psychological care for the child.
  4. Commit to full transparency, accountability, and non-retaliation in schools when parents raise safety concerns.

No child or parent should face intimidation or institutional punishment for speaking up. Schools must be safe, supportive environments — not places where children’s mental health is compromised or whistleblowers are silenced.
