Please can hedgehogs be added to the list? Having a hedgehog as a pet is becoming a new craze and my fear (more like a reality) is that people do not even know what they eat or how to care for them!

Im not sure how I feel about this law. I agree that permits should be issued for keeping these animals. Its a very sad and cruel trade. The way they are caught and exported are sometimes horrific and many die just so we can have the pleasure of having some as pets. If permits are issued then people will think twice before they are captured in the wild and treated badly or babies being removed from dead parents to sell.

Rather do something about dog fighting and homeless animals getting killed on our roads, if this goes ahead a lot of people will be without jobs!!!!

Hi I think not right and not fair people work with this reptile to just give it up I work with beard dragon and rescue this little guys I like what going happen people so passionate about care for this reptile from people abuse them. If my dragon get take away from me you take bullet shot me as well. I care to deeplu about my beard dragon I go to hell and back for them

I've had my monkeys for 7 years. I take excellent care of them and they are my children. I'll get the permit if I have to and the requirements are reasonable. Monkeys are not pets they are our children, for those who cant have any and the greatest non human company for the lonely. They play an integral part in peoples well-being and I dont know of a single person who owns a Monkey who is ill treating it. Much can be said about some breeders and a forum to set up and apply regulations to protect them from being ill-treated will be welcome, but to force people to give them up is unthinkable and cruel. Dont understand the logic behind it. Permits for trading and exporting I do understand. Would like to know what the procedure will be to get a permit to keep my monkeys and the cost that will be involved. How will it affect my breeding and selling of babies.

I have to say that the same thing was proposed over here in the UK but it was concluded that it would be to difficult and a waste of money to enforce. Just because the Americans have made a mess of the everglades it does not mean that the same thing is going to happen in South Africa.

If you read the petition you would see that hedgehogs ar on the list! But should we then ban dogs and cats as well? Lots of people don't know now to keep them or feed them? And birds? How about cattle and sheep? and chickens! Your argument that animal keeping should be banned because people don't know how to care for them is not really realistic.

My life will come to an end if I have to give up my Monkeys. They are my children, my whole existance, resolves around them. I work from 8h00 in the morning till 17h00 at night taking care of them. And then there's the nights you dont sleep for days sometimes weeks to help a weakling survive. I don't ask anybody to help pay their food and care bill of R4000 a month. I can choose to drive a grand car for the money I spend on my Monkeys, but I chose to spend it on them. I've been doing this for 7 years. If the permits are too expensive which one will I choose to let go?
