Hold Those Who Lied About COVID Legally Accountable

J James Cooper · US

During the COVID crisis, many people were given false or misleading information about the virus, the risks, and the choices that would protect families, workers, and vulnerable neighbors. When public messages, corporate claims, or other statements are knowingly misleading, the damage does not end when the headlines fade.

That damage still shows up in lost trust, avoidable illness, financial harm, and the deep frustration many residents feel when they believe they were steered by claims that were not honest or complete. If nothing is done, the people who relied on those statements are left with the consequences while the people responsible face none of them.

The right response is a serious civil case that examines the false claims, the harm they caused, and whether a class action is the proper way to seek accountability and compensation. Any such action should be based on evidence, handled through the courts, and focused on the specific conduct that misled the public.

We ask the state attorney general and the appropriate consumer protection and civil litigation authorities to review the documented COVID-related misrepresentations and, by the end of this year, decide whether to file, join, or support a class action civil suit where the facts and law justify it. If another public body has the strongest authority in your jurisdiction, it should make the same decision without delay.

This is not about reopening old arguments for their own sake. It is about using the law to answer a clear question: whether people who were misled about COVID should finally have a path to accountability, restitution, and a record that tells the truth.
