#JUSTICEFORMELISSA

NO MORE SILENCE. NO MORE EXCUSES. NO MORE HIDING.

A CALL TO THE PEOPLE OF SOUTH AFRICA TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN

This petition is for gutsy and brave Melissa – a 33-year-old mother who has chosen to speak and say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

For 9 years, from the age of 13 years, she was raped daily in every possible way, by a person her family trusted, who was meant to protect her. Today, she is standing up for every child, every teenager and every young adult whose innocence was robbed, safety and future have been stolen by a sexual offender.

#JUSTICEFORMELISSA

We are a broken country, with a broken legal system, with broken families, with broken children.

We call this burning issue out. This is the way we mend and heal.

This petition is for the survivors who were told to be quiet.

It is for the families who were afraid to speak.

It is for the children whose cries were not seen.

And it is for every parent, grandparent, brother, sister, aunt and uncle who lives with the terrifying knowledge that this could happen to someone they love.

SOUTH AFRICA — WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH.

Sexual violence against children is a scourge that is burning through our country.

And yet, in South Africa, it is still treated by too many as a taboo subject.

WHY?

Why are we afraid to talk about it?

Why are we afraid to confront it?

Why do we whisper about the abuse of children instead of shouting from the rooftops that THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE?

We cannot hide what is destroying our country.

We cannot protect our reputations while children are being destroyed.

We cannot keep sweeping this horror under the carpet because the truth makes us uncomfortable.

We cannot move forward; we cannot heal unless we tackle this issue

THIS IS A BURNING ISSUE.

I ASK FOR #JUSTICEFORMELISSA

And every single one of us needs to ask ourselves:

WHAT IF THIS WERE YOUR DAUGHTER?

What if it were your son?

Your granddaughter?

Your grandson?

Your niece?

Your nephew?

A child you love?

Would you still say nothing?

Would you still look away?

Would you still tell yourself that it is someone else's problem?

I DON'T THINK SO.

Because when it happens to someone we love, suddenly it becomes personal.

But it should not have to become personal before we care.

EVERY CHILD IS SOMEONE'S PRECIOUS CHILD.

OUR JUSTICE SYSTEM HAS FAILED TOO MANY OF OUR CHILDREN.

Our justice system has failed children and young people who deserved protection.

Too many survivors have been left waiting. The Courts take years to charge the guilty.

Too many families have been left fighting for answers.

Too many perpetrators have escaped the accountability they deserve.

And too many victims have been forced to live with the consequences of crimes they did not commit.

THE SHAME BELONGS TO THE PERPETRATOR — NOT THE VICTIM.

We need a justice system that is relentless in protecting children.

We need accountability.

We need consequences.

We need a system that does not simply process cases — we need a system that protects lives.

OPEN THE REGISTER.

We call for the Register for Sexual Offenders be made accessible to the public, with appropriate legal safeguards. We are told the Offenders have rights BUT WHAT ABOUT THE RIGHTS OF OUR CHIDREN?

Parents and communities deserve meaningful information that can help them protect vulnerable children.

People have a right to ask:

WHO IS LIVING IN OUR COMMUNITIES?
WHO HAS ACCESS TO OUR CHILDREN?
WHO HAS BEEN MARKED AS AN OFFENDER and CONVICTED OF SEXUAL OFFENCES?

We cannot protect our children if we are deliberately kept in the dark.

But silence cannot be the price of protecting privacy while children remain vulnerable.

AND LET US BE ABSOLUTELY CLEAR:

REAL MEN DON'T RAPE.

Real men do not prey on children.

Real men do not abuse power.

Real men do not use fear to control another human being.

Real men protect the vulnerable.

Real men respect women and children.

Real men understand that consent matters.

And decent human beings do not stand by while children are being harmed.

SOUTH AFRICA, THIS IS OUR WAKE-UP CALL.

We have become too comfortable with silence.

NO.

We will not keep it quiet.

We will not protect the comfort of adults at the expense of children.

We will not allow shame, fear or social taboo to silence survivors.

We will not allow the word "taboo" to become an excuse for inaction.

CHILDREN ARE NOT TABOO.

THEIR SAFETY IS NOT TABOO.

THEIR FUTURES ARE NOT TABOO.

JUSTICE IS NOT TABOO.

This country cannot heal by hiding its wounds.

We must expose the problem.
We must confront it.
We must demand action.
And we must protect our children.

TO THE PEOPLE OF SOUTH AFRICA:

I am asking you to stand with Melissa.

Stand with survivors.

Stand with children.

Stand against sexual violence.

Stand against silence.

Stand against a system that has failed too many.

Raise your voice.

Demand answers.

Demand accountability and justice.

Demand a country where our children can grow up safe.

Because tomorrow it could be your child.

Your grandchild.

Your family.

And when that day comes, you will want a society that stands up for them.

SO LET US BUILD THAT SOCIETY NOW.

Not tomorrow.

Not when another child is hurt.

Not when another family is destroyed.

NOW.

WE SAY NO.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Melissa deserves justice.

Our children deserve protection.

Survivors deserve to be heard.

And South Africa deserves the courage to confront the scourge that is burning through our communities.

WE WILL NOT BE SILENT.

WE WILL NOT LOOK AWAY.

WE WILL NOT STOP DEMANDING JUSTICE.

JUSTICE FOR MELISSA

REAL MEN DON'T RAPE

PROTECT OUR CHILDREN

BREAK THE TABOO

BREAK THE SILENCE

HOLD PERPETRATORS ACCOUNTABLE

NO MORE EXCUSES

NO MORE SILENCE

NO MORE
