MAKE STUDYING AFFORDABLE: STOP THE TAX ON FURNISHED ACCOMMODATION!
Dear student,
As a student in Brussels, I learned that on top of my rent and study expenses, I also have to pay something called a municipal tax on furnished accommodation (500 EUR per year). Because student life becomes more expensive every year, this additional tax creates extra pressure for many students.
Rental prices rise annually, while study grants and student jobs do not keep up at the same pace. The tax makes the financial situation even more difficult for many students — myself included.
Moreover, we as students do contribute to local life: we buy food and drinks here, visit local shops and cafés, use services, and actively participate in the city. It feels unfair that we — as a vulnerable group — are being taxed extra.
That is why I ask our local governments — and hopefully with your support — to reconsider the necessity and fairness of this tax.
SIGN THIS PETITION IF YOU BELIEVE THAT STUDENTS ARE ALREADY PAYING MORE THAN ENOUGH AND SHOULD NOT BE BURDENED WITH AN EXTRA TAX.

RENDEZ LES ÉTUDES ABORDABLES : STOP À LA TAXE SUR LES CHAMBRES MEUBLÉES
Cher étudiant, Chère étudiante,
En tant qu’étudiant à Bruxelles, j’ai appris que, en plus de mon loyer et de mes frais d’études, je dois également payer ce qu’on appelle une taxe communale sur les chambres meublées (500 EUR par an). Comme la vie étudiante devient chaque année plus coûteuse, cette taxe supplémentaire représente une pression supplémentaire pour de nombreux étudiants.
Les loyers augmentent chaque année, tandis que les bourses d’études et les petits boulots ne suivent pas le même rythme. La taxe rend la situation financière encore plus difficile pour beaucoup d’étudiants — moi y compris.
De plus, nous contribuons bel et bien à la vie locale : nous achetons notre nourriture et nos boissons ici, fréquentons les commerces et cafés locaux, utilisons des services et participons activement à la ville. Il paraît alors injuste que nous — un groupe déjà vulnérable — soyons davantage taxés.
C’est pourquoi je demande à nos autorités — et j’espère avec votre soutien — de reconsidérer la nécessité et l’équité de cette taxe.

MAAK STUDEREN BETAALBAAR: STOP DE TAKS OP GEMEUBELDE VERBLIJVEN!
Beste student,
Als student in Brussel heb ik vernomen dat ik bovenop mijn huur en studiekosten ook zoiets als een taks op gemeubelde verblijven(500 EUR/jaarlijks) moet betalen. Omdat het leven als student elk jaar duurder wordt, vormt deze extra belasting een bijkomende druk voor veel studenten.
De huurprijzen stijgen ieder jaar, terwijl de studietoelagen en bijverdiensten niet in hetzelfde tempo meegaan. De taks maakt de financiële situatie voor vele studenten – waaronder ikzelf – nóg zwaarder.
Daarnaast dragen wij als studenten wél bij aan het lokale leven: we kopen hier eten en drinken, bezoeken lokale winkels en cafés, maken gebruik van diensten en nemen actief deel aan de stad. Het voelt dan onrechtvaardig dat juist wij – als kwetsbare groep – extra belast worden.
Daarom vraag ik aan onze besturen - en hopelijk samen met jullie steun - om de noodzaak en rechtvaardigheid van deze taks opnieuw te bekijken.
ONDERTEKEN DEZE PETITIE ALS JE VINDT DAT STUDENTEN AL MEER DAN GENOEG BETALEN EN NIET NOG EENS EXTRA BELAST MOGEN WORDEN.
