We, the undersigned citizens of Miami Stories, hereby submit this formal petition calling for immediate and meaningful reform of the Miami Police Department (MPD).
This petition arises from growing public concern regarding leadership effectiveness, operational conduct, accountability, and community trust. While we recognize the importance of law enforcement in maintaining public safety, we believe reform is necessary to restore confidence and ensure constitutional, ethical, and professional policing.
Our Demands
1. Recognition of Mass Public Protest and Petition
We formally notify the City of Miami that a significant portion of the community is engaging in peaceful protest and civic action demanding reform of the Miami Police Department. This petition represents the collective voice of concerned citizens seeking transparency, accountability, and responsible leadership.
2. Appointment of a New Chief of Police
We respectfully request that the Mayor and City Council initiate the process to appoint a new Chief of Police who demonstrates:
- Proven leadership and accountability
- Commitment to constitutional policing
- Transparency in department operations
- Willingness to work with civilian oversight and DOJ review
3. City Council and Mayoral Action
We petition the Mayor and City Council to place the following items on the official agenda for discussion and vote:
A. Suspension of Hiring
- Temporarily suspend new officer hiring pending departmental review and reform implementation.
B. Replacement of Department Leadership
- Evaluate current command staff and replace leadership where necessary to ensure ethical, effective governance of MPD.
C. Mandatory Retraining and Independent Audits
- Mandate department-wide retraining focusing on:
- Use of force
- Constitutional stops and searches
- De-escalation tactics
- Authorize independent audits of:
- Arrest procedures

Our Position
This petition does not seek to abolish the Miami Police Department, nor does it call for unlawful or immediate mass removal of officers. Instead, it seeks structured, lawful, and realistic reform through proper governmental channels.
We affirm our commitment to peaceful civic engagement and request timely acknowledgment and response from city leadership.
Respectfully Submitted,
