PETITION: REQUEST FOR ALTERNATIVE ASSESSMENT (FPM 211)

Dear Faculty/Department,

We, the students registered for FPM 211 (BEd Foundation Phase), are requesting that the cancelled exam be changed to an alternative format such as an online or take-home assessment.

We are requesting this because:

The exam has been cancelled after students already prepared for it.
Some students have already booked and paid for travel (including flights )
The short notice makes it difficult for all students to adjust fairly.
Many students are now at risk of paying cancellation fees for already booked tickets, which they cannot afford.
As BEd Foundation Phase students, we already study under high pressure and financial strain. We travel to far areas for Teaching Practice (TP) and pay for transport and accommodation ourselves.
This means many students are already financially burdened.
In previous years, FPM 211 has been assessed using a take-home format.
This shows that a take-home assessment is possible and has been used before.

We are not requesting to avoid the assessment. We are requesting a fair and practical way to complete it.

We respectfully request:

An online exam, OR
A take-home exam, OR
Another fair alternative assessment method

We kindly ask that this be considered urgently so that students are not unfairly affected.
