Petition to oppose building works at Kalpana House, Thame; Application P20/S4663/HH
Kalpana is within the Thame Conservation area and has already had multiple extensions putting at risk the beauty, conservation and integrity of the area. According to the Thame Conservation Area Management Plan (southoxon.gov.uk): “.......where the proposal lies within a conservation area such as Thame, a careful balance must be sought between the sensitivity of the environment and the requirements of the developer. In taking account of existing densities within the conservation area, care must be taken to ensure sites are not overdeveloped.” Taken from Paragraph 5 of Thame Conservation area Management Plan.
* This proposal or a similar one was submitted to SODC in 2003 and was rejected on the grounds that it represented an over development of the Thame conservation area. The application went to appeal and was refused by the Planning Inspector, again on the grounds of the over development of the Thame conservation area.
* Even if this proposed extension were not in the conservation area it still represents an over development of the area. The roads leading to and from Kalpana are already over loaded with school traffic, church traffic, customers travelling to the Six Bells, visitors to the town using Mitchell Close and Brook Lane as a car park, causing traffic issues on a daily basis. Extending the living accommodation of a property invariably means more cars and the road access to properties in Brook Lane and Mitchell Close is already inadequate.
