Request public hearing on developing Norton Brothers Fruit Farm into housing

IMG_6930.jpeg

Cheshire's charm lies in its history, peaceful atmosphere, and lush, untouched wetlands that protect our natural environment. However, this tranquility and natural beauty are under threat. Birdsey Development LLC has proposed a 25-unit housing development on the historical Norton Brothers Fruit Farm, a place that holds  memories for many of us in the Cheshire community.

This potential development goes beyond simply losing a historic site. It threatens to disturb our irreplaceable wetlands, critical components of our ecosystem that help manage water runoff and provide sanctuary for wildlife.

Moreover, our town already struggles with overdevelopment and increasing traffic. The proposed 25-unit housing project is set to further exacerbate this issue, endangering residents' safety and burdening our roads, which are already brimming with vehicles on a daily basis.

We must act NOW to safeguard Cheshire's environmental and historical integrity. We believe that the town's residents deserve a say on this matter. Therefore, we are requesting that the Cheshire CT Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Commission (IWWC) hold a public hearing to thoroughly evaluate the implications of Birdsey Development LLC's application.

This public hearing would provide the platform necessary for residents' voices to be heard, ensuring any future development aligns with the community's best interests and environmental sustainability.

Join us in preserving the legacy and environment that makes Cheshire unique. Sign this petition and help us demand the necessary transparency and due diligence from our local government.
