Thibaud is more than where we come from. It shaped our values, strengthened our character and gave us a lasting sense of community. Our school’s name should proudly reflect that history.
We thank the Honourable Prime Minister for making the new school a reality. The school is currently named solely in honour of Vernice Bellony. After concerns were raised with the Prime Minister, he agreed to revise the name to Fabien Bellony, a gesture we sincerely appreciate. However, conversations with Thibaud residents at home and in the diaspora show that a strong preference remains for the school to be named solely in honour of the late Hugh Fabien.
As Chairman of the Thibaud Village Council, Hugh Fabien played a pivotal role in securing the former school and the land on which both the former and new schools stand. Naming the school in his honour would recognise his contribution, preserve our history and inspire future generations to value community service.
We also support naming the road from Blenheim to Vieille Case after Vernice Bellony, giving both individuals distinct and meaningful recognition.
This is not about politics. It is about our history, identity and legacy.
