PETITION: UPGRADE OF APPROXIMATELY 800 m OF SOLOMON MAHLANGU ROAD (INCLUDING THE SECTION BETWEEN GILDA AND JACQUELINE STREETS) TO A DUAL CARRIAGEWAY

We, the undersigned residents and frequent users of Solomon Mahlangu Drive, from Garstfontein and Atterbury Road through to the intersection of Gilda Street and Jacqueline Drive, Garstfontein, Pretoria, Gauteng, hereby place on record our serious concern regarding the current single‑carriageway section of this road. This approximately 800 m stretch of Solomon Mahlangu Drive should be upgraded to a dual carriageway due to the substantial traffic volumes it carries. It was originally earmarked for upgrading as part of the broader Garstfontein Road upgrade. However, the planned works were subsequently amended, and this critical section has been excluded, leaving the roadway unfit for its purpose.

This road serves as a major arterial route, accommodating exceptionally high traffic volumes, including vehicles entering and exiting Garstfontein Road and neighbouring suburbs. Its current condition poses risks to motorists, contributes to congestion, and undermines the safe and effective movement of residents, workers, and service providers. We therefore call on the relevant authorities to prioritise the upgrade of this section of Solomon Mahlangu Drive to a dual carriageway without delay.
