PETITION
We, the undersigned residents of Reiger Park, members of surrounding communities, concerned South Africans, and supporters of this petition, respectfully submit this petition to urgently request immediate government intervention to address the escalating violence and lawlessness that have devastated our community.
For far too long, Reiger Park has been gripped by relentless gang violence, shootings, and murders. Our streets have become crime scenes where the bodies of young people are found with alarming regularity. Families are forced to endure the unimaginable pain of identifying and collecting the bodies of their loved ones.
Our children live in constant fear. They cannot safely walk to school, visit local shops, or play outside without risking their lives. Families regularly throw themselves to the floors of their homes as gunfire erupts in our streets. This is not the life any South African should be forced to endure.
The ongoing violence has robbed our community of peace, security, and hope. Residents are prisoners in their own homes while criminals continue to terrorise our neighbourhoods.
We are equally concerned about the growing lack of confidence in the ability of Reiger Park SAPS to effectively combat crime. Many residents believe that stronger oversight and decisive intervention are urgently needed to restore public trust and ensure that policing serves the community with integrity and accountability.
We therefore respectfully call upon the Government to:
Declare the situation in Reiger Park an urgent policing priority.
Immediately deploy specialised SAPS units, including Anti-Gang, Tactical Response Team, Crime Intelligence, and Visible Policing resources.
Conduct sustained operations to remove illegal firearms, dismantle criminal gangs, and arrest those responsible for violent crimes.
Investigate all allegations of corruption, misconduct, or collusion involving members of Reiger Park SAPS.
Increase police visibility through permanent patrols and high-density operations.
Meet directly with residents, community leaders, and families affected by the violence.
Establish a long-term safety and crime prevention strategy for Reiger Park.
Ensure that those responsible for murder, attempted murder, and organised criminal activities are brought to justice without delay.
Our Appeal
We are not asking for special treatment—we are asking for the protection guaranteed to every South African under our Constitution.
Every child deserves to walk safely to school.
Every parent deserves the comfort of knowing their loved ones will return home safely.
Every elderly resident deserves to live without fear.
Every family deserves to sleep through the night without the sound of gunfire.
We refuse to accept violence as our normal way of life.
We respectfully urge the President, the Minister of Police, and all relevant authorities to act immediately before more innocent lives are lost.
Enough is enough. Reiger Park deserves peace. Reiger Park deserves justice. Reiger Park deserves protection.
